The Sir James McDonald Pipe Band of Portland, Oregon, shown here in a band photo taken in mid-summer, 2006.  The band program's commitment to excellence is reflected by consistent placement at the top of the band's grade in contests up and down the west coast of North America, and Scotland.

The Sir James McDonald Pipe Band is the first and only Oregon band ever to place at the World Pipe Band Championships.  Of their three entries at the Championships, they have twice been in the prize list in the juvenile category.  At the 2006 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, 29 pipers and drummers represented the band, which won fifth place.

The band is a tax-exempt "501(c)(3)" organization committed to building a foundation for lifelong appreciation of pipe band music in young people.  Paid performances and tax-deductible supporter contributions help to generate funds for travel, professional instruction, uniforms and equipment.  The band appears frequently at community, corporate and private events throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.  Performance highlights include various community parades and celebrations, military recognition ceremonies, church services, golf tournaments, school music and cultural diversity programs and selected benefit events.  The band is available for hire year round.

The band offers an introductory program for both pipers and drummers.  Private instruction is available.  Beginners between the ages of 8 and 14 are always welcomed.
